Change Your Preferred Language for Displaying Pages in Firefox

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 04:22 AM PST

Although a huge percentage of webpages are offered in English, there are virtually no limitations to the languages that webpages can display. In fact, the most popular web browsers can display webpages that contain any one of dozens of languages. Learn how to change your preferred language for displaying webpages in Firefox.

Why Change Your Preferred Firefox Language?

The most popular fonts such as Times New Roman and Arial contain letters from many different languages. These fonts are used often on webpages that contain languages other than English.

If you speak or read another language besides English, you likely visit websites that contain that language. By default, Firefox only installs the language most used in your country. If you want to display webpages that contain other languages, you have to add those languages to Firefox.

Changing the Preferred Language in Firefox

Begin by opening up Firefox and clicking on Tools>Options.

Click on Tools and Options in Firefox

This will open the Options window in Firefox. Locate a section of the window labeled Languages and click on the Choose button next to the label titled Choose Your Preferred Language for Displaying Pages.

Click on Choose Language in Firefox

This will open the Languages options window. In the box labeled Languages in Order of Preference, you may notice that one or more languages are listed. For people in the United States, you should have two languages listed: English/United States [en-us] and English [en].

Note that you can have more than one language listed here and that you can change the order of the languages according to preference. Click on the drop down box labeled Select a Language to Add. Notice that there are many languages listed here. Let’s say you want to add French to the list. Select French/France [fr-fr] from the drop down menu and then click the Add button.

You should immediately notice that French/France [fr-fr] is listed now at the bottom of the Languages in Order of Preference box. If you want French to take precedence over the other languages you have listed, use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to the right until you have the languages in the order you prefer.

If you want to remove a language from the list, click on the language and click the Remove button. Note that this does not delete the language from Firefox; it simply removes it from the list. You can always choose it again from the Select a Language to Add drop down menu and click the Add button to add it to the list of preferred languages.

Firefox is a versatile web browser that allows you to change the preferred language for displaying webpages. This feature is especially useful for bi-lingual users who often visit websites that display languages other than English.

You are not limited to choosing just one language at a time; you can choose multiple languages to include in your list of preferred languages. In fact, you can even choose the order of your preferred languages to determine which languages take precedence over the others in your list.

How to Double Space in Google Docs

Posted: 02 Dec 2010 03:17 AM PST

Here’s a quick tip that I ran into today when trying to write up a document in Google Docs: how to double-space the text! Pretty simple in Word, but had never done it before in Google Docs and I spent a little while until I figure it out.

I knew there could be no way that Google Docs wouldn’t support double spacing, so I wasn’t surprised when I finally found the option. Here’s how to quickly double-space the text in your Google Docs document.

Note that you can select text and only double-space the selected text if you like.

Step 1: First open the document that you want to double-space.

Step 2: Then click on Format and Document Settings from the menu.

Step 3: Here you will see an option for Line Spacing. Go ahead and click on the drop down to choose the desired spacing.

And that’s it!! Pretty easy eh? However, another annoying task I wanted to complete looks like it is currently not supported in Google Docs: double underline! If you can figure out how to double underline in Google Docs, post a comment here and let us know! Enjoy!
