Cuckoo In Cancun

Christiana Figueres

Still think those who continue to push the idea of man-made climate change are well-grounded and rational? Think again.

Consider Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. She opened the U.N's global warming conference last week with a prayer to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon.

Cancun Round-Up

Atlas shrugged. Then wept.Atlas shrugged. Then Bill wept.

Cancun is under way but you'd barely know it now that Climategate let the air out of warmist's tires.  Here's your one-stop shop to get up to date with hippie shenanigans in Mexico, in case you were curious.  The final week of talks will be covered in a second round-up, including all the schadenfreude you can eat when green on green recriminations begin.

UN Continues Push for Global Carbon Tax at Climate Confab

church of cancun

Is a global "carbon tax" still in the works, even though political support, as well as scientific support, has been steadily plummeting for legislative and regulatory regimes aimed at dealing with global warming?

The failure to produce a binding agreement at last year's United Nations climate conference in Copenhagen has led many observers to view the current summit in Cancun, Mexico, as an anti-climactic event that is unlikely to produce anything of substance.

Flooding rains put a dampener on warmist madness

Flooding in BrisbaneFlooding in Brisbane

THE great global warming scare is dying not with a bang, or even a whimper. Try a great horse laugh.

Right now, 20,000 politicians and carpetbaggers are meeting in the Mexican resort city of Cancun.

They are there for the latest UN conference on how to make everyone else cut the emissions caused by, for instance, flying a population the size of a small city to a Mexican beach.

Eco-Insanity and ANWR

The abject desperation and evil intentions of so-called environmentalists can be seen in the call to turn the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) into a national monument on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its designation.

This would provide ANWR with the same status as the Statue of Liberty—only there aren't billion of barrels of oil under the Statue, nor at George Washington's birthplace in Virginia.

Supreme Court to Hear Global Warming Case Against Power Companies

The Supreme Court announced Monday it will give further consideration to a closely-watched lawsuit filed by environmentalists, eight states and New York City blaming the problems associated with global warming on the carbon dioxide output of five major power companies.

UN draft gets it wrong on warming

Hot sun

PERHAPS the hot sun and pina coladas at swim-up bars are going to the heads of UN negotiators at the Moon Palace resort in Cancun.

A long-awaited draft text of an agreement published on Saturday contains an error about the degree of certainty that human emissions are causing global warming.

Ethanol on the Run

Corn

The political class inevitably invokes the moon shot or Manhattan Project as a model for every unrealistic energy goal, but for once maybe that hyperbole is apt: A left-right coalition is emerging to end ethanol subsidies.

Last week, no fewer than 17 Senators signed a letter calling ethanol "fiscally indefensible" and "environmentally unwise." Led by Democrat Dianne Feinstein and Republican Jon Kyl, the group said Congress shouldn't extend certain subsidies that expire at the end of the year, including the 45-cent-per-gallon tax credit for blending ethanol into gasoline and tariffs on cheaper imports. Conservatives like Tom Coburn dislike this costly industrial policy, while liberals like Barbara Boxer and Sheldon Whitehouse are turning against the hefty carbon emissions that come with corn fuels.

Al Gore's Alliance for Climate Protection Shutting Down Offices

buh-byeThe man at the forefront of conning governments and businesses into believing carbon dioxide is destroying the planet apparently is scaling back his efforts to do so.

According to Politico, Al Gore's political action group the Alliance for Climate Protection is shutting down some of its offices:

The Alliance for Climate Protection was operating in about 25 states at its peak, including Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Global Warming University in Shock Ban on Academic Freedom and Debate

ban

Extremist pro-green Swedish university shackles academic freedom and bans all teaching that doesn't conform to dogma of human-caused global warming.

The latest victim targeted by global warming fascists is Swedish professor, Dr. Claes Johnson who is smacked down for speaking the truth by his employers, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.

What happened to the 'warmest year on record': The truth is global warming has halted

A year ago tomorrow, just before the opening of the UN Copenhagen world climate summit, the British Meteorological Office issued a confident prediction. The mean world temperature for 2010, it announced, 'is expected to be 14.58C, the warmest on record' - a deeply worrying 0.58C above the 19611990 average.

The EPA Versus the USA

cartoon epa

It seems almost beyond reason that a single U.S. agency could so hate America that it was prepared to ignore the Constitution, distort a Supreme Court decision, and impose its will on the nation in the name of totally discredited science.

That, however, is what the Environmental Protection Agency is seeking to do while Americans are distracted by the Christmas celebrations.

At least 60 killed by cold snap across Europe

[h/t to Dave] At least 60 people have died across Europe during the current cold snap, as snow plagued transport in Britain on Friday and serious flooding prompted mass evacuations in the Balkans.

Seventeen people died in Central Europe in the last 24 hours from the cold, bringing the total this week to 45. A further 11 died in Russia, plus three in France and one in Germany, according to local authorities.

Embassy dispatches show America used spying, threats and promises of aid to get support for Copenhagen accord

Hidden behind the save-the-world rhetoric of the global climate change negotiations lies the mucky realpolitik: money and threats buy political support; spying and cyberwarfare are used to seek out leverage.

Campaign Against Climate Change: a Christmas appeal

Van familyVan family

This is the time of year when our thoughts naturally turn to those less fortunate than ourselves. We think of the mentally ill and the tragically deluded; we think of those so poor their home is a rusting, broken down 60s VW Combi with an Atomkraft Nein Danke sticker on the back, so crippled by their crazed notions of what constitutes "good" and "bad" transport that they can only travel anywhere by foot, bicycle or coracle; we think of those whose womenfolk plait the hair under their armpits in solidarity with the world's oppressed, whose men don't wash for months on end for fear of polluting Mother Gaia's precious clear lifeblood with soap suds; we think of people who can't eat meat, not even a turkey at Christmas, because their strange, backwards religion confines them to bean shoots, mung beans or organic tofu roast.

Ministers at climate change conference flying to luxury beach resort

The boondoggle to beat all boondoggles. The boondoggle to beat all boondoggles. More than 15,000 people have flown in for the annual United Nations summit.

Chris Huhne, the energy and climate change minister, will lead 45 delegates from Britain staying at the £240-a-night Moon Palace, where each room has a jacuzzi. The hotel boasts bars, a crazy-golf course and crocodile-filled ponds.

The £43 million conference, guarded by the Mexican army, has been criticised by local environmentalists for turning a blind eye to pollution and deforestation on the heavily built-up hotel strip where it is being held.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm totally confused. Our president speaks of global warming and the need to act, and to act now, before our planet ceases to exist. According to another planet savior, Al Gore, "the Obama administration has taken huge strides towards tackling climate change. Within one month of taking office Obama had secured $80 billion for renewable energy and green infrastructure." Gore himself claims "urgent action is needed for a problem not faced before." Or has it? Read on and see if you become as confused as I am?

Blam! Kapow! Climate Scientists in Verbal Brawl

Blam! Kapow! Smack! The bell has rung for the latest round of climate talks, but the battle continues among climate scientists too, making only one thing truly clear -- the science of global warming simply isn't settled.

Climate science suffered a black eye over the past 12 months, following revelations that the latest report from the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) contained numerous errors and relied too heavily on questionable sources. At the latest climate conference in Cancun, the group will stress that its research must continue.

"Avon recognizes its responsibility to the environment and the world's forests," Tod Arbogast, Avon's vice-president of sustainability and corporate responsibility, said in a news release issued by ForestEthics. "That's why we've asked our transportation partners to take steps that will avoid high-impact, high-carbon fuels such as those from the tarsands."

Signs that show Man Made Global Warming is Definitely Still Happening

As your boiler breaks down, your pipes freeze, your car won't start, your Ocado delivery fails to arrive, your train is cancelled, your neck is broken after slipping on black ice and you lie in an emergency ward waiting for a doctor to turn up only to learn that they're all off today because of the weather, you might be forgiven for thinking that all this has something to do with global cooling, changes in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and the decline in sunspot activity perhaps auguring a new Maunder minimum.

"Hot weather always gives a good result," muses one veteran of countless United Nations climate conferences.

"Cold weather, like in Copenhagen, that is the problem."

It would be worrying if it were true, but world leaders will be forgiven for hoping so.

Although the Obama Administration's anti-energy agenda has been defeated in the legislative arena, it remains alive in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where backdoor regulatory efforts are now underway, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) warned in a video message to the U.N. climate change conference in Cancun.
