One of the representatives of the Panagbenga Festival from Baguio, during the Aliwan Festival 2010 Celebration
I admit, I haven't seen any of these festivals (except for the Aliwan Festival) and I would love to experience them first hand. I hope that 2011 will open opportunities for me to experience these wonderful traditions at least within the region of Luzon.

January

Caracol Festival - Makati City, Philippines
No fixed date. However, this small version of the Mardi Gras is usually celebrated on the third Sunday of January.

February

Chinese New Year Celebration - Binondo, Manila
Time to get blessed by the dancing dragons!

February 1 – Mar 6, 2011 – Market Encounter
February 12, 2011– Let A Thousand Flowers Bloom
February 13, 2011 – Pre-Valentine Event & Fluvial Float Parade
February 26, 2011 – Grand Panagbenga Street Parade
February 27, 2011 – Grand Float Parade

March 2, 2011 – Pony Boys Day

I've always wanted to go to Baguio City to watch this festival, but my separation anxiety from my husband and dog does prevent me from doing so. May this year be different for me.

March -

April

Aliwan Festival
Aliwan Complex, Pasay City

This yearly festival brings most if not all festivals of the Philippines together. Since I can't go to each and every one of them, I make it a point to attend the annual Aliwan Celebrations.

May

Pahiyas Festival - Lucban, Quezon

The Pahiyas Festival is held in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. It is an annual observation in thanksgiving for abundant harvests. Quezon folk decorate their homes with the choicest produce; they string fruits and vegetables together and make the “kiping,” the traditional Pahiyas décor of many colors. These are leaf-shaped wafers of rice makeup and looks like Spanish tacos; these are used to liven up halls and walls, and more craftily turned into arangya (chandeliers) that lighten up the town on fiesta night itself.

Obando Fertility Rites - Obando, Bulacan
May 17
The lively song holds significant meanings to the childless mothers who, in their desire to share the fulfillment and happiness of motherhood, make the pilgrimage to Obando.

Obando is a small town in Bulacan, on the banks of Angat River. On May 17, 18, and 19, a fiesta is celebrated in this town in honor of its three patron saints: Santa Clara, the patron saint of the childless; San Pascual Baylon, a humble 16th century s hepherd who danced his prayers and became a model of religious virtue; and Lady of Salambao, who got her name because the image of the Immaculate Conception was fished out by a fisherman, with the use of a salambao net.

What makes the Obando fiesta unique among Philippine festivals is the dance performed in the streets by the childless women. With both their hands in the air, they swing and sway wildly to the Santa Clara melody.

June

March and June may be a little bit personal for me. March, I just might go out and look for the best place to spend a whole summer's day in. June, well, it's the season for getting married, so maybe I'll just go around town to watch couples get married and probably take some photos of it too.
