Rich Lowry: ‘The Ethanol Idiocy that Will Not Die’

In case you missed it, Rich writes over on the homepage:

When Al Gore drops an environmental fad, it has truly reached its expiration date.

In his wisdom, the Goracle recently acknowledged what almost all disinterested observers concluded long ago: Ethanol is a fraud. It has no environmental benefits, and harmful side effects. The subsidies that support its use are an object lesson in the incorrigibility of Washington's gross special-interest politics. It is the monster that ate America's corn crop.

Global warmists want America's wealth

A group reportedly is forming that may soon come after America's wealth because the world's poorer nations are falling behind. This information comes from a climate summit in Cancun, Mexico, which some are calling a " climate Siesta."

The director of the Tyndall Centre for Britain's Climate Change Research, Professor Kevin Anderson, told the English newspaper, The Telegraph, that the only way to reduce global emissions effectively, while allowing the poorer nations to continue to grow, is to halt economic growth in the rest of the world over the next 20 years. In other words, nations that produce wealth for the planet would be required to forfeit their own prosperity in order for the rest of the world to catch up.

Al Gore: The greatest environmental hustler?

huckster

The subject of the environment has long been a political football. Many manipulators have used it to gain power, thwart power or to save the world from something that isn't quite clear. Global warming; global cooling, cancers, flooding, droughts, etc. causes questions and worries about what is going on and how we can bring it under control. The first major politician to finesse this issue was the late President Richard M. Nixon. He elevated the Environmental Protection Agency and started "Earth Day" as a mechanism to divert attention from the anti-war and the civil rights movements that were whirling from Vietnam/Cambodia and the recent assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. Before long, more than a few politicians saw the advantage of embracing the issue and rallying the masses for political gain.

Michigan buried by global warming

Has there ever been a better illustration of the gulf between America's political elites and Middle America?

This weekend, a delegation to the United Nation's Climate Summit in the resort city of Cancun, Mexico that included Washington negotiators, Michigan faculty, and Ann Arbor students returned to declare that they had come to an agreement to transfer $100 billion — that's BILLION — to Third World countries to combat catastrophic global warming. The announcement came as a brutal winter snowstorm buried the Midwest in record snowdrifts that collapsed the Minneapolis Metrodome, drove temperatures to record lows in the south, and killed five people in the Metro Detroit area.

The U.S. Should Halt All Funding For U.N.'s 'Global Warming' Scam

The global warming prophets and propagandists, who enjoy living in style on other people's money, gathered last month in the plush resort of Cancun, Mexico, where January temperatures usually hover around 80 degrees. God must have a sense of humor because Cancun was hit by its coldest temperature in a hundred years.

Weather isn’t climate...except when it's hot

Welcome to global warming in Florida:

Last night, as I rode my bike from the ESPN Zone (only place to see the Vikings' horrible performance against the Giants) to the resort, the temperature was 27. It could have snowed!

It's not even winter yet.

Remember all that talk from the global warmists about how 2010 was the hottest year on record or some such thing? They should have waited until after December to say that. Does below-freezing weather in Florida count toward the average?
